The mid-market rate is the rate you see on Google. Every provider buys currency close to it and sells it to you at a markup — that markup is their real profit.
The visible charge, usually a small flat amount or a percentage. It is the only cost most people compare, which is exactly why it stays low while the markup grows.
Bank wire, card-funded app, cash pickup, or a local wallet payout. Each route has its own speed and cost, and the cheapest one changes with the country you send to.
Five minutes of checks prevents the two things that actually cost people money: an unlicensed provider and a payout that never arrives.
| Check | Why it matters | What good looks like |
|---|---|---|
| Licence | Money transfer is regulated almost everywhere. | A registered licence number on the provider's site that you can look up with your local regulator. |
| Total cost in writing | The markup and the fee are often quoted separately. | A single screen showing the fee, the rate used, and the exact amount the recipient receives. |
| Payout method | Bank deposit, cash pickup and wallet payouts differ in cost and speed. | The destination country and payout method you actually need are both listed up front. |
| Recipient name match | Mismatched names are the most common reason transfers get held. | The name on the account matches the name you typed, spelled the same way. |
| Limits and proof | Larger transfers trigger identity and source-of-funds checks. | Clear limits published before you commit, and documents requested only once. |
